If you are a passionate surfer who loves the waves and you are thinking of traveling to see new places where you can surf, you should consider some issues when getting on a plane with the board.

Transporting the surfing equipment is usually somewhat complicated since not all airlines will let you travel with it in their wineries. Each company imposes its own conditions such as rates, weight and measures.

Traveling by plane with  surfboard

Some companies will let you carry it as checked baggage and others will charge you a fee for each board you board the plane, everything will depend on how many boards you carry, their measurements and their weight.

There are flight search engines such as Airsurfin that allow you to include the cost to pay to dispatch your surfboard, directly in the fare of the plane ticket.

To transport your surfboard and that it arrives safe and sound at destination, it is essential to pack it in a suitable way so that it does not suffer dents, scratches or strong blows during the trip.

The most fragile parts, such as keels and edges, must be fully protected. You can choose to carry it with a good case, which can be soft or rigid. There are ultra light covers that are very resistant.

If you have more than one board, you can take them in cases with wheels, which will facilitate your transfer to the airport. Thanks to their greater capacity and because they are made with reinforced polyester, they will keep your boards isolated from any blow.

Accommodate the large tables below and the smaller ones above. You can use foam sheets so that they are padded and do not greatly increase the weight of the package. The less weigh the luggage, the better.

Cover the edges, nose and tail well, you can use the bubble nylon used to pack to protect these areas. This will provide extra protection, allowing your surfboard to be well padded inside the case and arrive in perfect condition, ready to catch waves.

Before flying it is advisable to remove the wax from your board, so that it does not melt and harden again irregularly with the temperature changes that it may suffer while traveling in the aircraft’s hold. It is best to apply the wax evenly when you arrive at the beach.

It is very important to remove the keels, as they are very fragile parts and can easily break. Make sure the board is securely fastened inside the case.

Do not forget to bring spare keels, the keys to adjust them and a wax suitable to the water temperature of the destination spot. Enjoy the trip and get the best out of your board surfing perfect waves!
